UNO Sweeps Valpo, Now 6-1

Hodge was Saturday's winning pitcher
The Privateer baseball team (6-1) swept a three-game series from Valparaiso at Maestri Field over the weekend.  New Orleans won a 9-0 blowout on Friday night, then eked out 5-3 and 9-8 wins on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Chaz Boyer contributed to UNO's early season power surge on Friday, blasting a homer down the left field line. Shawn Semple went 5 1/3 innings with a no-hitter and allowed no runs over 6 1/3.  Riley Hodge's effective start fueled Saturday's win, also going 6 1/3 and striking out seven.

Marsh drove in four on Sunday
On Sunday, New Orleans fell behind 4-0 and surrendered three homers on the afternoon, but persistent offensive production helped UNO fight back to a 9-8 victory. Preston Marsh led the way with three hits and four RBI.

A stern test awaits on Tuesday evening as the Privateers travel to Tigue Moore Field to take on nationally ranked UL Lafayette.
