Guard Troy Green |
The Privateers (1-2), playing the second game a four-game road trip, got out to an early 14-5 lead at Moody Coliseum, and led as late as 26-25 on a Troy Green layup at around the five-minute mark of the first half. But SMU ripped off 10 points in a row and led 39-33 at the half.
The host Mustangs established control in the second half, breaking down the UNO defense en route to a quick double-digit lead. The Bucs fought back to a six-point deficit, but an SMU run highlighted by an absolute massacre of a dunk from Feron Hunt put the underdogs away.
The Privateers were hampered by miserable three-point shooting as a team (4-for-24), but Green had a nice night to lead the effort with 20 points to go along with 7 boards. Gerrale Gates and Damion Rosser had 9 rebounds each.
UNO next heads to Mississippi State for a Sunday afternoon contest.
