Nostalgia: Club football opens 2009 season with 19-3 win over UTA

Four years ago today, before a season-opening crowd in excess of 2,200 at sweltering Tad Gormley Stadium, the UNO Privateers club football team scored a 19-3 triumph over UT-Arlington. The game opened the first full UNO club football season since 1970.

Reginald Nash's interception return for a touchdown on the final play punctuated the victory.

Inspired by a crowd of 3,707 at the team's single home game the previous fall, the Privateers opened this season with healthy season ticket sales and the full schedule slated to be broadcast over the Internet.  It was a more innocent time, before the leaders of the club team embraced the disastrous attempted Division III move, when solid crowds came and the Tad Gormley lot was festive and full of tailgaters.
