Nicholls Takes Game Two

New Orleans (11-28, 2-18) again fell to Southland co-leading Nicholls (24-20, 14-6) in game two on Saturday afternoon. The final score from Maestri Field was 8-5.

Again, a questionable umpiring decision (by the same guy who ejected Daniel Martinez in game one of the series) played a key role in the game. On a very obvious force out at second base on a bunt attempt, the ump ruled the Nicholls runner safe. The call sparked a three-run inning which gave the Colonels the lead. After another disputed call on a foul tip resulted in another Nicholls run, Privateers Head Coach Ron Maestri was ejected from Maestri Field. There's just something not right with that!

Reese Kanter homered in the first inning for New Orleans. The Privateers attempted a pair of rallies in the 8th and 9th innings, but again couldn't get that last big hit.

Game three of the split series is Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm, back in Thibodaux at Didier Field. Alex Smith is expected to start for New Orleans.
