For the third day in a row New Orleans (11-29, 2-19) attempted a late inning rally but fell just short, losing 4-3 at Southland-leading Nicholls (25-20, 15-6.)
In the first two games UNO got the tying or go-ahead runs to the plate in the final couple of innings. Today, they got the tying run to third base in the ninth but a strikeout ended the rally. A base-running error earlier in the inning proved to be a major factor in the rally falling short as well.
Reese Kanter had three hits in the loss. Alex Smith allowed three runs in the first inning, but settled in and pitched well in a seven inning outing.
The Privateers return to action next weekend when they host the McNeese State Cowboys at Maestri Field.
