Tied 61-61 with under two minutes left, the Privateers (9-7, 4-1) got two free throws and a layup from freshman Gerrale Gates to help surge to the last seven points of the game and a 68-61 win over Stephen F. Austin.
UNO was blitzed early, trailing 15-2 and 17-4 before rallying strong to a 29-28 halftime lead. SFA had 13 first half turnovers and 22 for the game, helping UNO to overcome a 40-30 rebounding deficit.
Troy Green had an inspired performance to lead New Orleans with 15 points. Ezekiel Charles added 12 and Gates 11 for the victors. UNO shot well from three-point range, nailing 8-for-18 as a team.
