Rebounding Privateers Win Seventh Straight

Hezekiah Randolph had four
hits and a home run on Tuesday
After a midseason slump that had them dropping near .500, the Privateers (25-15, 9-9) have rebounded with seven consecutive wins, the latest tonight over Southern by a 23-3 score in Baton Rouge.

Three different Privateers had four hits, and among those, Hezekiah Randolph and Preston Marsh homered in the onslaught.  Dakota Dean also blasted a round-tripper for UNO.

Over the weekend, New Orleans swept a road conference series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to give them five straight conference wins immediately on the heels of eight straight conference losses.

It will be a big week at Maestri Field, with the Bucs hosting nationally ranked Southern Mississippi on Wednesday before taking on Central Arkansas in the weekend's conference series.  UNO and UCA will be two of the teams fighting for the last few spots in the Southland Conference baseball tournament.

McNeese Sweeps Sinking Privateers

Sam Capielano collected six
hits over the weekend
The Privateers (18-14, 4-8) lost their seventh consecutive conference game, getting ten-run-ruled at Maestri Field by McNeese on Sunday, 13-3.  This followed a 6-1 loss on Friday and a 7-3 loss on Saturday to the Cowboys. New Orleans has lost nine of its last 11 overall.

On Friday, the Bucs were shut down by McNeese ace Kaleb Fontenot to lose the opener.  On Saturday, the UNO offensive struggles continued as they left 12 on base, notching 13 hits but just one extra base hit in the 7-3 defeat.  On Sunday, Privateer pitching (starter Brian Warzek and reliever Daniel Martinez) surrendered six runs in the top of the first en route to the blowout eight-inning loss.

New Orleans will play a non-conference tilt with Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday at Maestri Field before returning to home conference action on Friday night against the Northwestern State Demons.
