Privateers Edge SLU in Hammond

Dixon: 18 pts, 7-for-9 FG
The Privateers (8-9, 5-4) took their third consecutive win, and third consecutive road win, by beating the Southeastern Louisiana Lions 90-85 at the University Center in Hammond.

Freshman Christavious Gill notched his third straight career high, hitting four treys on his way to 21 points. Cory Dixon added 18 for the winners.

UNO holds off TAMU-CC For Upset

The Privateers (7-9, 4-4) were in control throughout but had to hold off a late Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rally, completing their second consecutive road victory by a 70-62 score. The Islanders entered the game at 6-1 in the league, which was good for second place.  New Orleans survived 24 turnovers in the winning effort.

Freshman Christavious Gill again led UNO in scoring with 19. Tradarrius McPhearson added 14, and Cory Dixon scored 12 to go along with 16 rebounds.

Privateers Cruise at HBU, 79-66

Gill led UNO with 18 points
New Orleans (6-9, 3-4) scored its first road win in the Southland Conference, re-establishing control after a Houston Baptist flurry to end the first half en route to a 79-66 victory. The Privateers dominated the glass at a 41-22 clip and got solid production from its backcourt, paced by freshman Christavious Gill with 18, senior Isaac Mack with 13, and freshman Tevin Broyles with 10.

UNO next travels to Corpus Christi to take on the TAMU-CC Islanders on Saturday night.

Sam Houston Surges Late, Beats UNO

Sam Houston and New Orleans were locked in a tight battle deep into the second half when the Bearkats exploded for a 10-0 surge and took control, eventually notching a 77-70 victory over the Privateers (5-9, 2-4). Tradarrius McPhearson led the UNO effort with 16 points.

New Orleans now heads out for a five-game road trip beginning next Thursday at Houston Baptist.

Maestri Field Re-Opening Delayed

SportsNOLA's Lenny Vangilder reports that the first nine home games of the 2014 baseball season scheduled for Maestri Field have been moved, seven to Zephyr Field and two to Barrow Stadium.

Privateers Dominate Lamar

The Privateers (5-8, 2-3) broke open a close game at halftime, pouring it on the Lamar Cardinals down the stretch in a 77-55 victory at Lakefront Arena. It was UNO's most lopsided win over a Division I opponent since it beat North Texas almost six years to the day (January 17, 2008) by 22.

Kevin Hill stepped up big with a 17-point, 12-rebound effort to lead New Orleans. Traddarius McPhearson added 16, Cory Dixon 12, and freshman James Harrison 11.

Videos: Lamar Two-Fer ('87, '88)

With New Orleans and Lamar renewing their basketball rivalry this week, here's a small sampling of the matchups in the 1980s via local news highlights. In 1987, the Privateers steamrolled past the Cardinals on their way to a 26-4 season and NCAA Tournament berth. In 1988, UNO lost its first American South Conference battle with Lamar on an Anthony Bledsoe three-pointer with two seconds left.

Brutal Afternoon on the Lakefront

The Privateers (4-8, 1-3) were embarrassed by a 78-55 score at the hands of Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.  The game featured a 28-3 run by the transitional D-I visitors over approximately 13 minutes of game time. Freshman guard Nate Frye led the way for UNO with 13 points.

Earlier in the day, the UNO women were also blown out 67-38 by UIW.

UNO Notches First SLC Win

The Privateers got a challenge from feisty Abilene Christian but escaped Lakefront Arena with a narrow 87-81 win for their first Southland Conference victory. Tradarrius McPhearson led the Privateers (4-7, 1-2) with 19 points. Freshman Christavious Gill had a career-high 17 points, and Kevin Hill also chipped in 14 for the winners.

Earlier in the day, the UNO women were dismantled 88-44 by ACU.

UNO returns to Lakefront Arena on Saturday afternoon to take on Incarnate Word.

McNeese 82, UNO 69

Turnovers plagued the Privateers for the second game in a row, as UNO dropped its second conference game in three days, this time to the McNeese State Cowboys, by an 82-69 score in Lake Charles.  New Orleans (3-7, 0-2) fell behind big early, trailed 37-22 at the half, and never recovered despite a monster double-double from Cory Dixon (24 points, 17 rebounds).

Earlier in the day, the UNO women lost to McNeese 82-59.

Nicholls upends UNO

In a game that featured an absurd 104 total free throw attempts, the Privateers fell at Nicholls in their first ever Southland Conference basketball game by a score of 88-83. Cory Dixon led New Orleans with 21 points in the foul-plagued league opener, and Jeremy Smith paced the Colonels with 17.

Earlier in the evening, the UNO women fell 89-40 to Nicholls.

UNO returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Lake Charles, when they will take on the McNeese State Cowboys. MSU defeated Southeastern Louisiana 69-60 in their SLC opener.
