Boyer's homer put UNO ahead for good in Sunday's first game |
This week provided the upstart Privateers (13-3, 2-1) with their toughest tests of the season, and New Orleans responded with four wins in five games at Maestri Field, including a comeback win over Tulane and a series victory over Sam Houston State.
UNO won their first two Southland contests of the year over the Bearkats, as Sam Capielano delivered a walkoff single in Saturday night's 4-3 victory and Chaz Boyer blasted a go-ahead three-run homer in game one of Sunday's doubleheader. The Privateers hung on for a 7-6 win in that one, before falling 8-4 in the second game.

Earlier in the week, the Bucs rallied from a 7-1 deficit against Tulane, with Aaron Palmer notching a game-tying hit in the bottom of the ninth before the winning run came home on an errant throw from the outfield, completing the 10-9 triumph. On Tuesday, the Privateers battered outmatched Southern by a 14-4 score.
UNO will head to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on Wednesday night.
